Dr. Felix Dyrna

Dr Felix Dyrna completed his medical school at the University of Leipzig, in 2014 and started his orthopedic career under guidance of Prof. Andreas B. Imhoff at the technical University Munich, Germany, with early clinical and research focus on shoulder and elbow.

From 2015-2016, he did an international research fellowship at the Musculoskeletal institute at the University of Connecticut learning from Prof. Augustus D. Mazzocca and Prof. Robert A. Arciero expanding his knowledge on upper extremity biomechanics and biologics.

Since 2018, he has been working in the Trauma- and Hand department at the University Hospital Muenster, Germany, led by Prof. Michael J. Raschke.

Dr Dyrna’s major research interests focus on understanding and improving upper extremity biomechanics by developing new techniques and set-ups to simulate complex joint mechanics. Further, he is working on biologic augmentation option for rotator cuff repair and biologic fundamentals of tendon healing.

Dr Dyrna is a member of the regenerative Medicine committee of the AGA – Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He joined the ESSKA in 2017 and serves as an active member of the ESA. He regularly reviews for KSSTA and other scientific journals since 2015.

Dr. Knut Beitzel
Dr. Knut Beitzel

Dr Knut Beitzel is a specialist in orthopedic surgery, who works as the Head for shoulder surgery, arthroscopy and sports orthopaedics at the ATOS Orthoparc Clinic in Cologne, Germany. In addition, he is affiliated as a scientific consultant to the Department of Orthopedic Sports Medicine at the University Hospital Munich “Rechts der Isar” (Germany).

His clinical and scientific interests focus on reconstructive shoulder and knee surgery. He completed a research fellowship at the Musculoskeletal Institute of the University of Connecticut Health Center (Farmington, USA) with Prof. Augustus D. Mazzocca and Prof. Robert A. Arciero. He acquired further knowledge during his specialty training at the University Hospital Munich with Prof. Andreas B. Imhoff following his residency. Dr Beitzel obtained both his degrees in Medicine (MD) and his Master in Sports Science (MA) from the University of Bonn, Germany.

His research interests focus on topics related to reconstructive shoulder- and knee surgery as well as biologic approaches to enhance tendon and cartilage healing. He has authored and co-authored a multitude of internationally published and peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and regularly attends international conferences and meetings as an invited speaker and instructor.

He is an established member of the following professional associations and serves as an active member in committees of: International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), the Association for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (AGA), the German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (DVSE).

He received the “medi Award” 2013 of the German Society for Arthroscopic Surgery for his paper entitled “Structural and Biomechanical Changes in Shoulders of Junior Javelin Throwers – A Multimodal Evaluation as a Proof of Concept for a Preventive Exercise Protocol” besides other awards for scientific papers and presentations.

Dr. Emmanouil Brilakis
Dr. Emmanouil Brilakis

Dr. Emmanouil (aka: Manos) Brilakis, was born on 4 January 1976 in Athens, Greece. He is living and working in Athens, the capital of Greece and he is a Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon specialized in Shoulder, Knee and Sports Orthopaedics. He is married having 2 children.

He received his degree from the Medical School of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (2003) and followed this up with a residency training program in Trauma & Orthopaedics, in the 2nd Orthopaedic Department of the same University. He undertook a Shoulder fellowship program in the Center of Shoulder Arthroscopy and Open Surgery of Athens (an ESSKA and ISAKOS accredited teaching center) making a use of the awarded fellowships from the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (2012) as well as from the Hellenic Arthroscopic Association (2012). He has also completed a MSc degree (2010) in “Metabolic bone diseases” and his PhD thesis (2018).

He has been appointed as attending physician at the 3rd Orthopaedic Department of Hygeia Hospital from 2017 and from 2020 he has been awarded the title of Associate Director of this department. He is also available for private consultations at his office (Brilakis Orthopaedics) located in Palaio Faliro, Greece. His has been appointed as Head team Doctor for several Greek teams, distinguishing the female Basketball team of Olympiakos Piraeus and Panionios GS.

He is actively involved in research having publish articles and book chapters in national & international publications. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of ISAKOS. He teaches regularly on post-graduates training programs of Athens Medical School and he is a member of National (Athens Medical Association, Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Hellenic Arthroscopic Association) and International (ESSKA, ESA-ESSKA, ISAKOS, AAOS, AANA, SECEC/ESSSE) Societies. He has been elected as a Board member (Treasurer) of the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology for the period 2020-2022\. He is an active member of the membership and communication workgroup of ESSKA-ESA (2018-2020 and 2020-2022) and an active member of the present (2019-2021) Communications Committee of ISAKOS.

The areas of his scientific and research interest are the followings: shoulder, instability, massive irreparable RC tears, shoulder arthroplasty, knee, sports orthopaedics.



Dr. Manos Antonogiannakis
Dr. Manos Antonogiannakis

Dr. Emmanouil (aka: Manos) Antonogiannakis, has been a board certified Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon specialized in Shoulder since 1992.

He is currently the Director of the 3rd Orthopaedic Clinic at the biggest private hospital of Greece, Hygeia Hospital.

He received his degree from the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and followed this up with a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at 401 Athens General Military Hospital.

He has been appointed as Director and Deputy Director in the Orthopaedic Departments of several military hospitals around Greece. Since 2008, he has been the Director of Arthroscopic and Open Shoulder Surgery Center of Athens.

Passionate about lifelong learning and constant development, he has taken part in numerous international conferences as a guest speaker whilst since 2017 he is the chairman of Athens Shoulder Course International Conference. Prior to that, he has successfully organized 10 national medical conferences always dedicated to the Shoulder pathologies and treatment.

Trainer in many Shoulder Arthroscopy Advanced Courses, himself, is a MAKO Robotic surgery certified orthopaedic surgeon. A founding member of ESA, an ESSKA Sector dedicated to shoulder, has been a Member of ESA Management Board of from 2018 to 2020, President of the Hellenic Arthroscopic Society from 2008 to 2010, Member of Hellenic Association Of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, an International Member of Arthroscopy Association of North America (A.A.N.A.), Member of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (I.S.A.K.O.S) and Member of the International Cartilage Repair Society (I.C.R.S)

Also actively involved in research he has published articles and book chapters in national & international publications.
