For this 8th session in the Series " Learn from the Masters in Shoulder" , we have the pleasure of inviting Dr George Athwal who will be presenting "Putting it all in to perspective: AI, VR, AR, MR ?", Dr Danny Goel who will be presenting "Virtual Reality and the Learning Explosion : Bringing it Home to You" and Dr Bruno Gobbato who will be presenting "Mixed Reality : The Digital, Surgical and Educational Continuum"

The presentation will be followed by an interactive Q&A session where you are encouraged to participate with your questions and comments.

Dr. Danny Goel
Dr. Danny Goel

Dr. Goel earned his medical degree and a Masters in Science from the University of Manitoba. He then pursued his Orthopedic Surgery training at the University of Calgary. He is a member of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada and is Board Eligible under the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Goel is shoulder fellowship trained from the University of Western Ontario and Harvard University. He has also had exposure to complex shoulder tendon transfers at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Dr. Goel’s practice includes all aspects of arthroscopic and reconstructive shoulder surgery.

He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia Department of Orthopedic Surgery and a member of the Division of Arthroscopic, Reconstructive Surgery and Joint Preservation. He maintains privileges at Burnaby General and St. Paul’s Hospital. He is a member of the Canadian Orthopedic Association, Canadian Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and British Columbia Medical Association.



Dr. Bruno Gobbato
Dr. Bruno Gobbato

Dr. Bruno Gobbato had his training in Curitiba, Brazil at the Federal University of Parana and completed both the residency program and fellow in shoulder and elbow surgery under the supervision of Dr. Paulo Sergio Santos and Carlos Henrique Ramos. Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Shoulder and Elbow.

Gobbato is the Director of Information Technology for the Brazilian Orthopaedic Society and consultant for the Brazilian Shoulder and Elbow Society.

His actual projects are related to Augmented Reality, Computer Vision Diagnostic, and Robotics.



Dr. George Athwal
Dr. George Athwal

Dr. George Athwal is originally from Vancouver and completed his M.D. at the University of British Columbia. Following the completion of his orthopedic surgery residency at Queen's University, he spent 2 years sub-specializing in upper extremity reconstruction and trauma. Dr. Athwal completed a 1-year fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell University, New York, NY. Following this, he completed 1-year at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. In 2005, he joined the Hand and Upper Limb Centre at the University of Western Ontario. He is actively involved in biomechanical and clinical research pertaining to the shoulder and elbow.

Dr. Alexandre Lädermann

Together with his team, PD Dr. Alexandre LÄDERMANN treats traumatic and nontraumatic pathologies of the shoulder and the elbow. He is the President of Swiss Shoulder Society (Expertengruppe Schulter und Ellbogen (Swiss Orthopaedics)) and the President of the Congress of the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC/ESSSE) and Editor of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty. Driven by his will to develop new medical techniques to improve his patients' recovery, Dr LÄDERMANN is at the heart of intense scientific activity. This has led him to create the Foundation for Research and Teaching in Orthopedic Surgery (FORE) of which he is also President.
